IFRA, or the International Fragrance Association, is an organization that represents the global fragrance industry. They have developed a set of standards, known as the IFRA Standards, which are designed to ensure the safe use of fragrance materials and to promote good manufacturing practices.
The IFRA Standards include a list of restricted substances, as well as guidelines for the safe use of fragrances in different types of products. Compliance with these standards is not mandatory, but many companies choose to follow them as a best practice.
To better understand the application of the IFRA Standards, we have also included a table outlining which product categories fall into each IFRA Class. This information can help you determine which category apply to your specific product and ensure that you are meeting the necessary requirements.
Please note that for Ifra categories 1 and 6, all ingredients must have a FEMA number. Additionally, you should check the relevant regulations in your target market countries. To help with the calculation of fragrance concentrations in different products, Scentabile offer a calculator based on the IFRA 50th Standards. This calculator allows you to input the usage level of each fragrance material, and it will automatically calculate the total fragrance concentration and check for compliance with the relevant IFRA Standard.
